Storm Circuit made a lot of HDI circuit boards. Any layer HDI is the most complex circuit boards that the holes can be from any layer to any layers.We made an any layer HDI PCB for audiophile earphones.
Storm Circuit has many univeristy customers,such as Columbia University,Oregon State University.We recently made a specail circuit boards for Carnegie Mellon University.What is the special? The PCB has chip-on-board package,that is we have to cut a fixed depth and make finishing over the exposed copper,also this circuit board is Rogers 4003 material.The surface finishing is also special ,it is not ENIG ,but it is i ENEPIG---ENEPIG-Electroless Nickel Electroless Palladium Immersion Gold.
The design is four layer PCB.Chip on board package is the the small chip will be loaded in the PCB.We have to cut from top to the second layer to expose copper and make ENEPIG on it. The cutout is very small,only 2*2mm, the curvature will be a bit big if we use normal rout bit ,and this is rejected by our valued customer. So,to cut this small area,we use laser cutting ,looks very nice.
We made a lot of Rogers material+FR4 board,we call them mix stackup board. All are 6 layer PCB with special stackup. The stackup is as below. The stackup is making like an 8 layer PCB.

The PCB is 1.6mm, 1oz, blue solder mask,white silkscreen and immerion gold.Another special is the end lanch connector treatment. Trace at the connector is very small,we can not v-groove this board,otherwise,it will damage the trace and make short .
Pls see how to load the end lanch connector correclty.it is very strict,the board will not work if any damage.

Metal has very good thermal conductivity,so many high thermal conductivity boards used metal core.
Aluminum is the most popular material in high thermal conductivity boards.
Normal thermal is from 0.8-2.00 W/m.k,and higher can up to 8.0 W/m.k.
Here is an example of Yamaha power board,this is double sided board with metal core. The Aluminum is in the middle,and copper layer on top and bottom side.From top side,we can see there are TO-252 footprint parts,these components have very high heat when working. so high thermal conductivity board is required .The design is very great as there are many thermal vias at each TO-252 parts.The heat will go through another side soon .
We know ,most of the rigid PCB thickness is 1.6mm.however,we offer many different thickness for your designs.For FR4 board,below thickness is avaible ,0.2mm,0.4mm,0.6mm,0.8mm,1.0mm,1.2mm,1.4mm,1.6mm,2.0mm,2.4mm,3.0mm,3.2mm. the min thickness we made is 0.2mm.this is also the min thicnkess for FR4 material supplier can offer.
FPC (flex board) is around 0.15-0.2mm. 0.2mm rigid board looks like a flex board,but it can not bend like fpc.
These days ,we got a lot of 0.5mm pitch BGA and 0.4mm BGA boards to do .But some are not good to manufacture ,of course ,some designs are very good to do .Let us see it .
Our good example is 6 layer PCB ,0.15mm ,via in pad at BGA area ,0.4 and 0.5mm pitch BGA.
Via in pad is a good solution for such high density boards.no trace go through BGA pads but connect go through via in inner layers.,so there is enough room to make the BGA bigger.
Good example for 0.5mm pitch BGA,no trace go through BGA pads ,use via in pad.via 0.15mm
Bad example for 0.4mm BGA pitch. 3/3 mil trace go through BGA pads ,and the BGA pads are only 0.17mm which makes assembly very difficult . DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS DESIGN.
Prototypes were made in June 2015 and production was made in Nov.
This is 4 layer PCB with all 5oz copper,pressfit holes (tolerance +/-0.05mm),NO X-OUT.

Total over 200 components per board ,most components are 0402 and many 0201 parts.
Both sides SMT loading .
Be honest,we only use original and new components with the brand customers require,even the part is connector.Unlike many other suppliers--they use fake or used parts what is the cheapest they would like to use . We purchase the genuine components at very competitive price as we have many good channels in all over world.If any change,we have to get approval first.
